Jordan, participating for the first time in the 16thAsian Junior
Team Squash Championships, will go to the court tomorrow morning in an attempt to win 9thplace in the ongoing event in Seoul, South Korea. The Jordanian team, represented by Ahmad Al Saraj, Hamzah Alzubaidi and Mohammad Al Khasawaneh, had mixed results in round one. With 15 countries participating in the boy’s event, the draw placed Jordan in Pool B along with the countries of India, Korea and China.
Jordan’s debut on day 1 (20/2) was against Korea. Jordan lost 2-1:
Ko Young Jo lost to Ahmad Al Saraj 3-2 (12-10, 8-11, 14-12, 10-12, 8-11). Yoo Seung Ryung beat Mohammad Al Khasawneh 3-0 (11-2, 11-5, 11-3). Ryu Han Dong beat Hamza Alzubaidi 3-1 (11-5, 11-5, 12-14, 11-8)
On day 2 (21/2) Jordan played China in the morning and won 3-0:
Ahmad Al Saraj beat Liang Jun 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-2). Mohammad Al Khasawneh beat Wu Kai Yuan 3-0 (11-4, 11-5, 11-3). Hamza Alzubaidi beat Yang Tian Xia 3-0 (11-3, 11-1, 11-3)
The afternoon was not as bright as the morning for the Jordanians falling to India 3-0:
Mahesh Mangoankar beat Ahmad Al Saraj 3-2 (11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 8-11, 11-6). Kush Kumar beat Mohammad Al Khasawneh 3-0 (11-9, 11-6, 11-8). Deepak Mishra beat Hamza Alzubaidi 3-0 (11-6, 11-7, 11-7).
With these results Jordan came third in pool B after India and Korea. China was last.
Second round:
The Jordanian team will play for positions 9-12 along with Singapore, Qatar and Sri Lanka. Jordan will face Singapore at 10:00 AM tomorrow 23/2, while Qatar faces Sri Lanka.
The push for the title in the boy’s event will take place tomorrow as four teams made it to the quarter finals: Pakistan, India, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Pakistan reached the QF by beating Korea 2:1 and will face Malaysia which beat Japan 2-1. Hong Kong China made it to the QF after beating Kuwait 2-1 and will face India which beat Iran 3-0.
