Jordans Junior Hopes demolished by an adult

Day Four of the Doha WSF World Juniors in Qatar was a good day for Egypt who produced three semi-finalists in each event, with Pakistan and England keeping their hopes alive with single victories.

There was one upset as Mariam Metwally won her all-Egyptian meeting with Kanzy El Dafrawy, and almost another as the last match of the day turned out to be the longest, closest and best of the tournament so far with second seed Mohamed Abouelghar scraping through by the skin of his teeth.

ONE MATCH TOO FAR

[3/4] Danish Atlas Khan (Pak) bt [9/16] Ahmad Al-Sarraj (Jor) 11/6, 11/8, 11/5 (30m)SquashWithMe in Jordan presents Ahmad Al-Saraj

Never easy for a junior to play on a glass court for the first time, and today, I could see how Ahmad was not playing his best squash. He was not finding many length to be honest, and if he still played some lovely shots, and picked up some difficult shots, he was opening the court too much for an opponent with so much experience on the junior scene.

A very adult and mature performance from Danish today, lovely shots at the front, very composed. He’ll be happy with his match.

SquashWithMe in Jordan presents Ahmad Al-Saraj in action“I was maybe a bit tired today, but he played too well for me today. I just couldn’t play my game. If I could do it again, I would counter attack much more on his boasts, I didn’t do enough there…

“It was my first time on the glass court, in front of the TV, it was a bit overwhelming for me I think. And at times, I was really struggling to see the ball.

“Yesterday, I played better against Ollie, I was hoping to win before the match, but I was expecting a much tougher match, the first game was 11/9, but after that, the score was much easier. And I was so happy to qualify for the quarters of my first ever world Championship.

“I’m so proud I was here, and for that, I would like to thank my family, and my coach, Saad, and finally Amr who is here with me in Qatar.”
